OSHA PSM – Ethanol – U.S. – Performed Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on the equipment processing, transporting and storing alcohol above 20% Alcohol By Volume (ABV) and transporting and storing Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHCs) to obtain compliance with 29 CFR 1910.119(j)(4)(iii), OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) Mechanical Integrity (MI) testing and inspection standard.
OSHA PSM – Ethanol – U.S. – Conducted a comprehensive review of facilities’ compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Assisted client in building a foundation for meeting the requirements of OSHA’s Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1910 and EPA’s Code of Federal Regulations 40 CFR.
Plant Design – Corn Wet Fractionation – U.S. – Designed corn fractionation facilities for ethanol plants in the U.S.
Plant Optimization – Ethanol – Worldwide – Maximized the yields, efficiency, energy use, labor use, and implementation of procedures to minimize waste at biodiesel and ethanol plants worldwide.
Project Management – Ethanol – Worldwide – Oversight of the planning, coordination and execution all aspects of the design, fabrication, installation, staffing, startup and training of various plants worldwide.
Project Management & Financing – Biorefinery – U.S. – Developed a commercial scale integrated cellulosic ethanol biorefinery project. Project elements included selection of Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) companies, development of Basic and Detailed Engineering package, site selection, coordination of feedstock and off-take agreements; project financing package development, identification and structuring of project financing. Negotiation and securitization of $100 million bond was accomplished. A 67 acres’ site for the project was secured under a 100-year lease from the local county with zero cost to the project owners.
RFS Evaluation – Ethanol – U.S. & Canada – Provided government required engineering reviews for numerous biodiesel and ethanol plants.
RFS Evaluation – U.S. & Canada – Assessment of the fuel supply outlook and regulatory changes to the LCFS and similar programs that have the potential to impact the growth and sustainability of opportunities for renewable fuel producers looking to participate in both Pacific Coast and the RFS marketplaces. Assisted with fundamental price modeling for fuels and credits.
RIN Marketing – Ethanol – U.S. – Consulted to find buyers for RINS for production plant prior to construction
RIN Training – Ethanol – U.S. and Canada – Consulting and training of plant personnel in the registration for and production of Renewable Identification Numbers as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Safety Training – Ethanol – U.S. – Developed and implemented a comprehensive safety program specific to the facility’s operations that includes, policies, forms, training, self-audit checklists and implementation guide.
Start-up Training – Ethanol – U.S. – Developed and implemented an online operations training program for fuel ethanol production facilities that utilizes process flow diagrams, process control diagrams, block flow diagrams and 3D models to educate ethanol production facility operators on the role of each piece of equipment in the process, identify equipment locations, describe process flows, state the equipment processing functions, describe basic process controls and identify the main equipment internal components.
Tax Credit Consulting – Ethanol – U.S. & Canada – Assisted various clients in U.S. and Canada with applying for and securing state and federal biodiesel tax credits.
Technology Vetting – Cellulose to Ethanol Technology – U.S. – Provided lead consulting support to one of the largest tire manufacturing companies in the world on the identification and selection of a compatible cellulosic ethanol technology for integration with natural rubber manufacturing process. A detail evaluation of both technical and economic feasibility was conducted and recommendations were made for technology selection and deployment.
United Nations Study of Pyrolysis Oil Markets – Europe and Japan – At the request of the United Nations, we developed a study of potential pyrolysis oil markets in several EU countries and Japan. Study was of liquid pyrolysis oil, made from biomass, to be used to replace fossil oil in many industrial, commercial and residential applications. At $50/bbl oil, the combined the market size in the EU and Japan exceeds 120 million tonnes, essentially limitless. Some of these markets are very lucrative, and IRRs of investment are high.
Water Permitting – Ethanol– U.S. – Worked with facility owner and management understand facility operations and submit appropriate information and applications to local, state and federal jurisdictions to obtain National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
