What do HAZOP experts in the bioeconomy do? HAZOP (Hazards and Operability Study), a widely used process hazards analysis methodology, use professionally qualified team brainstorming to identify and resolve process safety hazards by considering unusual occurrences. It focuses early on the more probable failure scenarios, including human factors. It poses questions about possible deviations from normal operation in a process section, usually referring to the Process Flow Diagrams. The deviation is in a process operating parameter, such as “temperature”. A guiding word from a set list, such as “more of” or “reverse”, is used to identify the possible process deviation in the operating parameter. Credible deviations are noted and possible causes are identified. Safety consequences and action items to prevent the consequences are recorded. The action items are executed outside the HAZOP. This method is applied systematically throughout the process.
