Landfill Treatment

When defining a “landfill treatment expert” in the bioeconomy, we are describing a trained specialist who evaluates various methods of increasing degradation of MSW within the landfill, thereby increasing landfill gas production for use as renewable energy and/or renewable chemicals/products.  Leachate from the landfill needs on-site pre-treatment and it should be within the expert’s capability to provide the most cost-effective option – especially for emerging and existing contaminants such as 1,4 dioxane and PFAS.  MSW treatment options outside the landfill also likely fall within such an expert’s capability as they evaluate technologies that can provide waste to energy/fuels and renewable products such as chemicals.

A landfill treatment expert will likely have an advanced degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical or related Engineering, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, etc.  The qualified expert will have years of experience working in the waste industry and be familiar with things like landfill/waste remediation, bioreactor landfill, landfill gas optimization, leachate treatment, and environmental permitting.  The expert will likely also have experience in evaluating and permitting waste conversion technologies such as digesters, gasification, pyrolysis, and plasma arc technologies for conversion of MSW to energy, fuels, chemicals, or products of higher value.

A qualified landfill treatment expert can assist clients in the waste industry in providing alternative technologies to extend the life of existing landfills, optimizing landfill gas production for renewable energy, and creating additional revenue by converting waste to fuels and chemicals of higher value.  They will also know about PFAS special wastes that some landfills may not accept, and how they might best be treated or destroyed. Industries other than landfills can also utilize this type of expert as they seek to provide sustainability in the management of their generated wastes (e.g. to avoid landfilling) and capture energy, fuels, and chemicals from their generated wastes.

For over 25 years, Lee Enterprises Consulting has been assisting companies and investors with issues relating to sustainability, bioenergy, biomaterials and chemicals, biotechnologies, and feedstocks.   With over 150 consultants, we have the diverse expertise and geographical reach to assist in virtually any bioeconomy project worldwide. These seasoned professionals average over 30 years each in their industry experience.  Our ability to assemble these professionals into multidisciplinary teams allows us to fully integrate the technical, scientific, and regulatory aspects of a project, and combine them with years of hands-on experience.  Take a look at our experts and the services we provide.  You will note that most of our experts are also available for ancillary engagements and advice, for specialty engagements like serving as expert witnesses in litigation matters.  A good overview of our group is found in this video.  Call us at 1+ (501) 833-8511 or email us for more information.
