Jonathan Wagner, Ph.D.
Enzymes, Enzyme Reactors, Biocatalysis, Protein Production, Structural Biology
Dr. Wagner has been involved in protein science for seventeen years. He earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Kentucky under the direction of Dr. David Rodgers and Dr. Bruce Hinds. He wrote his thesis on the topic of substrate recognition of oligopeptidases and immobilization of oligopeptidases for drug delivery inside nanoparticles. He conducted postdoctoral research on proteins from tuberculosis secretion systems at the University of Kentucky. Then, further postdoctoral research on enzymes of the innate immune system at the University of Virginia.
Jonathan accepted a position at Bonumose LLC as Director of Enzyme Development in 2018. There, he developed the patented immobilized enzyme technology used to produce tagatose from low-cost feedstocks. He oversaw in-house and third-party research efforts that reduced the cost of enzyme reactions to meet company goals during the scale-up process. In 2024, Jonathan founded Solidzymes LLC and began to offer enzyme development services at the Solidzymes lab in Virginia, USA. He joined the LEC community in 2025. Contact Jonathan.
