Mirela Tsagkari, Ph.D.
Cost Estimating, TEA, Process Systems Engineering, Biorefineries
Dr. Tsagkari holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and is an AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) with more than 10 years of international experience in techno-economic analysis, capital cost estimation and evaluation of complex industrial investments, with expertise in biorefineries and sustainable process technologies.
Within her industrial experience, Dr. Tsagkari has led project delivery and cost estimation across biorefineries, specialty chemicals, fine chemicals and large-scale process facilities. Experience spans early-stage technology assessment, process design, capital and operating cost evaluation, quantitative risk analysis and investment decision support.
Developed specialised expertise in biorefinery economics through doctoral research focused on rapid methodologies for CapEx and OpEx evaluation of biorefinery processes. This work included the development of simplified cost-estimation methodologies for strategic planning and decision-making, techno-economic assessment of novel biorefinery concepts, and optimisation of CapEx versus OpEx trade-offs incorporating sustainability criteria.
Brings a distinctive ability to bridge process systems engineering, techno-economic analysis, sustainability and capital investment economics, translating emerging technologies and complex process concepts into robust, decision-ready economic assessments. Particularly well positioned to support the evaluation and scale-up of biorefineries, biofuels, circular-economy technologies and other sustainable industrial investments.
She is recognized within the professional cost-engineering community through leadership roles in AACE International. She currently serves as the AACE Director for Europe & Africa. Contact Mirela.
