Jeffrey Reed, Ph.D.
Renewable Fuels, Energy Storage, Electrochemical Energy and Thermochemical Biomass Conversion Systems
Dr. Reed has over forty years of experience in energy systems development and analysis spanning industry, consulting, and academic roles. He currently serves as the Chief Scientist for Renewable Fuels and Energy Storage in Clean Energy Institute at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Reed’s research focuses on energy-system techno-economic and lifecycle analysis, and optimal transition pathways to deep decarbonization. Dr. Reed is also active in technology evaluation, project development support, and financial modeling. Dr. Reed has expertise in electrochemical systems, biomass conversion systems, and turbomachinery. Prior to joining UCI, Dr. Reed was the head of strategic planning and technology development for the Sempra Energy Utilities, was an energy-sector consulting executive at Accenture and Booz-Allen, served as vice president of marketing and business development for the global steam-turbine division of ABB Power Generation in Switzerland, and is the past chair and director emeritus of the California Hydrogen Business Council.
Dr. Reed has authored more than twenty journal articles and published technical reports. He holds a doctorate in engineering from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in management from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Contact Dr. Reed.
