Alan has a B.A.Sc., Bio-Resource Engineering, and is a registered Professional Engineer in a number of jurisdictions. Alan has over 30 years of experience designing and managing projects in a variety of industries including Biomass Power Generation and Pulp & Paper. Alan leads and manages the Vancouver office of our strategic partner, Clean Energy Consulting. He specializes in electrical, instrumentation, and control (EIC) systems with a particular focus on the application of control systems for power generation and the process industries. He was the overall EIC design engineer and project manager for the EIC portion of two major Bioenergy plants. These plants were the largest, by MW, implementations of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology using biomass in the world. They have been running successfully for the last three years. Alan has in-depth knowledge, understanding, and experience in the application of basic and advanced control systems to the control of industrial processes. He has been involved in all aspects of projects from conception through construction to commissioning and start-up. Additionally, he provides ongoing support for maintenance and operating personnel on many of the projects he has worked on. Alan has hands-on experience with utility interconnection, electrical and control systems design, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and human-machine interface (HMI) software. Alan excels at conducting in-depth systems research and providing optimal engineering solutions; with proven success at leading and managing engineering and business teams. Alan has a proven track record of exceeding client expectations, understanding the needs of all stakeholders, and providing viable solutions within challenging project budget and schedule constraints.
