Landfill Diversion, Municipal Energy From Waste (EFW), Anaerobic Digestion, Refuse Systems and Environmental Commodities

Thomas Lewis is an Operations and Maintenance expert with extensive experience in Municipal Energy From Waste (EFW), Anaerobic Digestion (AD), Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), and industrial wastewater treatment. He has led major outage and retrofit projects—including 12+ Cold Iron EFW plant outages, a full flue gas system replacement, and an overhaul on the ash processing building. With Covanta, Thomas managed operations at an EFW facility and acted as a liaison with Pinellas County officials to streamline logistics for 1100 daily refuse haulers and manage receiving pit inventory to maintain fire code. He continued his career to lead O&M at AD facilities, wastewater treatment sites, and biogas CHP engine plants for organizations throughout the east and central US, delivering significant performance improvements, including; raising a distressed asset from <10% to 70% output, advancing three brownfield RNG sites from ~50% to >85% proforma, and achieving permit compliant discharge at a dairy wastewater facility through targeted process upgrades. His leadership at Covanta contributed to achieving the VPP Star Award, earning him the company’s “Over the Top” Award.

As a consultant, Thomas provides expertise in feasibility analysis, feedstock evaluation, technology selection, permitting, process optimization, commissioning, and long term operational strategy. He has supported the successful deployment of emerging technologies at Oxeon Energy from pilot scale demonstration to commercial operation. Thomas holds an Associate Degree from Sandhills Community College, completed ASME Standards & Certification at the University of South Florida, and maintains OSHA 511/501, Six Sigma, and the American Biogas Council (ABC) Digester Operator Certification.
