Mike has over 25 years of experience in renewable fuels and sustainable biotech. His diversity of experience, from classical chemical processing to cutting-edge Biotech and AgTech, allows Mike to bring chemical and biological processes from R&D to full-scale production. His successful commercialization across multiple product lines and industries includes SAF, nutraceuticals, and AgTech, wallowing two startup companies to transition into commercial reality. As Chief Technical Officer at Heliae, he led the development of multiple award-winning products in the agriculture biotech space. Additionally, Mike directed company efforts across various platforms, from designing and expanding biological growth systems to downstream processing improvement. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Algae Biomass Organization and has also worked for 15+ years in a derivative of the classic petrochemical industry focused on a smaller footprint, higher-efficiency chemical processing, and scaling from R&D to managing operations. Mike directed the design, construction, and functions of a first-of-its-kind small-scale gas-to-liquids pilot plant.
Mike has presented multiple topics at numerous conferences, from discussing soil health regeneration with algae in Hawaii to discussing safety mentality in plant operations for the PTT National Oil Company of Thailand. He has authored multiple publications, worked in various countries, holds 25+ patents and trade secrets, and is a member of several professional and business organizations. Mike holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and an MSc in Environmental Engineering from Washington State University. Contact Mike.
