Karen is an experienced sustainability practitioner with a background in chemical and biochemical engineering. She currently leads the Carbon Operations team at Truterra, a farmer-owned cooperative Land O’Lakes subsidiary focused on advancing regenerative agriculture practices through a carbon program. Her work in this capacity is focused on developing and implementing strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable production practices within the agricultural sector.
Prior to joining Truterra in 2022, Karen served as the Sustainability Engineering Senior Manager at Gevo Inc., a renewable fuels and chemicals company. Her work at Gevo was centered on researching and developing strategies around sustainable hydrocarbon production, which involved examining the entire lifecycle of production and identifying ways to minimize environmental impact.
Her educational background in chemical and biochemical engineering, along with her minor in biomedical engineering, has equipped her with a strong foundation in the science and technology of chemical production and its impact on the environment. She has completed an MBA from the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business, which further enhances her business acumen and strategic planning abilities.
