Alexandre Morel, Ph.D.
Cultivated Meat, Bioprocessing, Seaweed Biopolymers, Polylactic Acid (PLA), Spinning Technologies, AI in Biotechnology
Alexandre earned his Ph.D. in Biomaterials from ETH Zurich, focusing on applying spinning technologies to produce textiles from biopolymers such as PLA and chitosan for tissue engineering applications. He played a pivotal role in establishing Switzerland’s first cultivated meat production line. As the Head of Innovation and Technology Development, he led projects centered on novel bioreactor designs, bioprocessing, and bio-based materials, resulting in the filing of several patents. Additionally, he conducted a techno-economic analysis (TEA) to minimize the cost of goods sold (COGS) for cultivated meat production from stem cells.
He is actively involved with an accelerator that supports startups leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in biotechnology. Alexandre also shares his expertise with angel investors and venture capital firms, assisting them in identifying promising startups and technologies, including cellular agriculture, 3D (bio)printing, and sustainable packaging solutions.
