Deadly Emissions Are Increasing
A report from the UN last month noted that the world is on track to increase emissions by 10.6 percent as compared to 2010 levels, and that is only if countries actually meet their current commitments. This could cause global average temperatures to rise as high as 2.9 degrees Celsius, or 5.22 degrees Fahrenheit. It has become apparent that there is a big difference between what countries say and what they actually do about climate change.
Right now, 559 million children face frequent heat waves, and it is predicted that by 2050, virtually every child on Earth will experience more extreme heat – even under optimistic greenhouse gas emissions scenarios. What we all need to realize is that these disasters are not inevitable, nor are they simply “natural disasters”. They are man-made disasters that we created, and if we cannot agree on anything else, it is time to come together and stop destroying the planet and future generations.
